As we reflect on the year 2024, Pathways to Hope Africa (PTHA) celebrated impactful accomplishments across Uganda. From pioneering research into cost-effective poultry feed solutions to strengthening community partnerships and delivering mobility carts, PTHA remained steadfast in its mission to empower local communities and foster sustainable development.

Turning Waste into Poultry Feed
The year began with a collaborative research project in Kayunga, Uganda, led by UC Davis, focusing on developing low-cost poultry feed. By incorporating cassava peels as a carbohydrate source and Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae as a protein alternative, trials with 100-layer hens showcased a sustainable formula to reduce feed costs. This innovation highlighted the economic potential within Uganda’s cassava value chain, with opportunities for processing cassava into flour, starch, and bioethanol. Supported by ILRI, FAO, and Makerere University, this initiative reinforced smallholder poultry farming while enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agriculture.
Strengthening Community Partnerships in Wobulenzi, Luwero
In August, PTHA deepened ties with Mother Teresa Compassion (MOTCOM) in Wobulenzi, Luwero, a critical support system for the elderly facing malnutrition, non-communicable diseases, and inadequate shelter. The visit offered firsthand insights into the barriers older adults encounter, inspiring PTHA to collaborate with MOTCOM and local stakeholders to enhance social support systems. This partnership is a testament to PTHA's dedication to restoring dignity and creating meaningful solutions for the community's most vulnerable members.

Bridging Mobility Gaps: Mobility Cart Distribution
A major milestone of 2024 was the partnership with Mobility Worldwide to distribute 202 mobility carts, starting in Soroti and later expanding to Mukono and Arua. Inspired by the story of Martin Akere, a resident of Soroti living with mobility challenges, this initiative restored independence for many individuals. Alongside the cart distribution, medical camps offered services such as first aid and blood sugar and blood pressure monitoring. These efforts not only improved physical mobility but also enhanced overall community health and well-being, highlighting the transformative impact of mobility and healthcare access.

Looking Ahead
In 2024, PTHA’s achievements—spanning innovative research, strengthened partnerships, and impactful mobility solutions—demonstrated a commitment to bridging gaps in resources and expertise to uplift lives across Uganda. By collaborating with academic institutions, government agencies, and grassroots networks, PTHA made meaningful strides toward sustainable development.
As we move into 2025, PTHA invites friends, supporters, and potential collaborators to join us in extending these life-changing programs. Together, we can inspire hope and create lasting, positive changes.
