Pathways to Hope Africa takes center stage at the National Daibetic Day at Atutur under the theme: "Empowering Families Against Diabetes and Inaugurating the Atutur NCD Center"

The National Diabetic Day celebrations held in Atutur, Kumi, on November 23, 2023, were marked with resounding success, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Ministry of Health Uganda and various organizations. Pathways to Hope Africa (PTHA), a non-profit organization, was one of many organizations that played a pivotal role in the event as community development partners.

Empowering Families Against Diabetes: A Meaningful Theme

The theme for this year's National Diabetic Day, "Empowering Families Against Diabetes and Its Consequences," echoed throughout the celebrations. Families and individuals gathered at the heart of Atutur to raise awareness about diabetes and take proactive measures against its impact.


Unveiling the Atutur NCD Center

The day's significance was further enhanced by the commissioning of the newly constructed Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) center at Atutur Hospital. This state-of-the-art facility is poised to become a cornerstone in the fight against diabetes and other non-communicable diseases in the region.

PTHA's Outstanding Contribution

Pathways to Hope Africa, honored to be part of the event, assumed the role of one of the community development partners, planned and implemented medication distribution to all the participants. With a mission to empower communities and enhance healthcare, PTHA actively participated in the testing and medication distribution process.


Key Contributions by Pathways to Hope Africa:

  • Community Development Initiatives: PTHA engaged with local communities, providing educational materials, interactive sessions, and resources to raise awareness about diabetes prevention and management. An exercise overseen by our partner doctors.

  • Medication Distribution: PTHA distributed free medications to over 100-300 participants during the exercise, ensuring that those in need had access to essential treatments.

  • Partnerships for a Healthier Future: Pathways to Hope Africa collaborated with Molgen Lab Uganda and Dasion USA, among other organizations. Molgen Lab oversaw the testing exercises facet and conducted an A.I Training test pilot, using advanced technologies to enhance the efficiency of the data tabulation process.

"Know your risk - know your Response": A Slogan with Impact

The powerful slogan encapsulated the day's celebrations, "Know your risk - know your Response," emphasizing the importance of understanding and addressing the risks associated with diabetes.


As the event concluded, the organizers expressed gratitude to all participants and contributors, especially Pathways to Hope Africa, for their unwavering commitment to promoting health and well-being in the community. The success of the National Diabetic Day serves as a beacon of hope, inspiring a collective effort to combat diabetes and its consequences in Uganda.
